Pragmatic Solutions for Post-Flood Rehabilitation in Bangladesh

Small enterprises in the Dhaka area were badly damaged by the 1998 flood. This paper reviews the damage incurred in the worse affected areas around Dhaka and presents several actions that may be taken to assist these enterprises to recover from the losses incurred in the flood. In this report a small survey was carried out and it is analyzed to give a current picture of the financing situation facing the enterprises; to determine the losses incurred from the floods; and to provide a framework for assessing the impact of different approaches to funding rehabilitation.
