Safe Drinking Water and Hygiene Promotion

JIPL initiated a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene promotion activities in flood hit areas of District Charsadda and Nowshera, KPK. The project consists of 2 components, hard and soft.
It is a widely accepted concept that without giving people the requisite knowledge, skills to help them towards adopting safe behaviors through a structured behavior change communication strategy, construction and rehabilitation of infrastructures are less effective and unsustainable in helping people improve their situations. Based on the successes from Phase 1 of the project, "Rehabilitation of Drinking Water Supply in Khyber-Pakunkhwa after the Floods 2010", with the objective to contribute towards eradication of water borne diseases by improving access to clean drinking water and improved hygiene practice implemented in Charsadda and Nowshera where an integrated approach combining interventions related to both hard and soft component proved to be very effective and relevant. Same model is being implemented in Upper Swat with little modification.
